Description
This collectible set of four postage stamps issued by Ireland depicts the Pine Marten, an endangered species. The pine marten (Martes martes) is a small, cat-like mammal native to Europe and Asia. It is a member of the weasel family (Mustelidae), and is closely related to the sable and the American marten. Pine martens are about the size of a domestic cat, with a long, bushy tail and a thick coat of brown fur. They have a distinctive white or cream-colored "bib" on their throat.
