Description
This collectible set of two postage stamps was issued by Ireland to mark the Birth Centenary of Thomas J ("Tom") Clarke (1858-1916). Thomas Clarke was an Irish republican and a leader of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). Clarke was born on the Isle of Wight in 1858 to an Irish father and an English mother. He was educated in Dungannon, County Tyrone, and joined the IRB in his early twenties.
