Description
Interesting Vatican Post folder with eleven genuine Vatican City postage stamps. Six of the stamps depict Pope Pius XII and were issued to commemorate the Marian Year of 1954 and the centenary of the dogma of Immaculate Conception. Three of the stamps depict a crowd of people facing Christ the Redeemer; these stamps were issued in 1945, toward the end of World War II, and were issued to call attention to the plight of prisoners of war. The other two stamps were issued as Special Delivery postage stamps.
The stamps have all been postmarked with Vatican City postmarks dated 18 January 1955. This would make an interesting addition to a collection.
