Description
This collectible US postage stamp cover is an interesting bit of history. The return address is that of the famed Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas. The cover bears three US postage stamps, known as the "For Defense" issue, and is addressed to Dr. William C. Menninger. The stamps appear to have been hand-cancelled, with a postmark of "Oxford, Kans, Mar 15, 1941".
According to the Kansas Historical Society, "Will, like many other Menninger staff, joined the armed forces during World War II; by the end of the war he was a brigadier general and extremely influential in the treatment and care of soldiers with psychiatric problems."
