Description
This collectible postage stamp depicting William Henry Seward was issued by the United States Post Office to commemorate the Alaska-Yukon Pacific Exposition. This event, known as the "Yuky Expo," was a world’s fair held in Seattle, Washington, from June 1 to October 16, 1909. The fair was designed to celebrate the development of the Pacific Northwest and to promote Seattle as a gateway to the Pacific Rim. It was the first major world’s fair to be held west of the Mississippi River. The Exposition featured over 200 exhibits from around the world, including displays of Alaskan and Yukon gold mining, Japanese gardens, and a full-scale replica of the Panama Canal. The fair also included a number of amusement rides, including a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster, and a zeppelin.
