Description
This collectible block of four 2-cent postage stamps was issued by the US Post Office to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Monmouth. The stamp depicts a portrait of George Washington with an overprint reading "Molly Pitcher". Molly Pitcher is a legendary figure associated with the American Revolutionary War. While the exact details of her story are shrouded in mystery, she is believed to have been a woman named Mary Ludwig Hays who served alongside her husband, William Hays, during the Battle of Monmouth on June 28, 1778.
