These four 32-cent US postage stamps were first issued on February 22, 1996, in New York, NY, to honor four pioneers of communication. Each stamp depicts an inventor with one of his inventions:
Eadweard Muybridge (1830-1904), shown with photographs taken by his zoopraxiscope
Ottmar Mergenthaler (1854-1899) shown with a linotype machine
Frederic E. Ives (1856-1937) shown with an enlarged halftone image
William Dickson (1860-1936) shown with motion picture images from his work with Thomas Edison
