Description
This collectible plate block of four 17-cent postage stamps was initially offered for sale on May 28, 1981, in Springdale, Pennsylvania and honor American author and scientist Rachel Carson. Ms. Carson (1907-1964) won the National Book Award in 1951 for The Sea Around Us. In 1962 she published Silent Spring, a book which touched off an international controversy over the deadly effects of pesticides.
